Containers must be kept "closed"
Containers are
considered closed when all lids, gaskets, and locking
rings are in place and secured.
Hazardous waste containers must be kept closed, except when
adding or removing waste.
Keeping containers
closed helps ensure that:
- Waste does not evaporate from the container
- Waste is not spilled if the container is knocked over
Some hazardous waste accumulation containers are accessed
so frequently that constantly removing and replacing bungs,
lids, and retaining rings becomes a real pain. A number of
commercially available devices
may be acceptable for closing the container if these devices
are properly used and maintained.
