Currently Available Tests

Numbers given in this section are either manufacturers values taken from product manuals, or average values from previous test setups, actual accuracy and precision will vary for your specific setup.

  • Stretched wire
    • Precision: ~10^-4
    • Accuracy: ~10^-4
    • Potential Uses The stretched wire can be used in situations where you need a single measurement of the integrated strength of a magnet, or if you would like to see the length integrated strength of a magnet vs. the X position across the pole.
    • Range: >.05T

  • Long rotating Coil
    • Precision:~10^-5
    • Accuracy: ~5*10^-4
    • Potential Uses Used in situations where high precision comparisons of integrated strengths are necesarry, large numbers of currents or magnets, or precision measuring of harmonics.
    • Range: >.05T

  • Hall Probe
    • Precision:
      • DTM 141:.01% of reading
      • LS450: +- .003% of range
      • LS460 3 Axis: 3*10^-4% of Range
      • Bell 9900: +-.02% of reading
      • Sypris 7010: 3*10^-4% of Range
    • Accuracy:
      • DTM 141: +-.1% of max reading
      • LS450: +-.1% of reading
      • LS460 3 Axis: +-.10%
      • Bell 9900: +-.035% of reading
      • Sypris 7010: +-.01% if range
    • Potential Uses When you need to map the shape of a field at medium precision in 1 2 or 3 dimensions. Also useful for finding fields along beam paths.
    • Range .0003T < field < 3T

  • NMR Probe Metrolab PT 2025
    • Precision: .1 ppm
    • Accuracy: 10 ppm
    • Potential Uses Used when a high degree of precision and accuracy are needed in a point measurement of a highly uniform magnetic field.
    • Range: .043 T to 13.7 T

  • Fluxgate Probe
    • Precision: +-.2% of reading
    • Accuracy: +-.5% of reading
    • Potential Uses Useful for measuring small remnant fields, as well as small fluctuations in earths fields at a distance away from the magnets.
    • Range -5G < Field < 5 G

  • Short rotating Coil
    • Precision:~10^-2
    • Accuracy: ~10^-2
    • Potential Uses Used in situations where measuring of harmonics over small areas is desired.
    • Range: >.05T
