Photogrammetry
Digital photogrammetry is an efficient method to quickly measure complex
objects, both large and small. Currently the Alignment
Engineering Group (AEG) has changed software from
PHIDIAS (which is integrated with MicroStation) to the self-contained
program Australis.
In either package, digital photos are taken of an object in the field from a
multitude of angles. Control points and points of interest can usually be
quickly marked using retroreflective targets that are later identified
automatically during processing. Alternatively, unmarked features such as edges
or curves can be used to determine 3D polylines that don't require specific
referencing of corresponding image points.
