Hybrid Photon Detectors

Abstract: I will report on the status of R&D towards the development of large aperture Hybrid Avalanche Photo-Detectors (HAPD). This work is focused on HAPD with a 13-inch aperture, expected to replace photo-electron multiplier tubes (PMT) as photo- detectors in the next generation of water Cherenkov detectors such as Hyper Kamiokande. The excellent performance of HAPD (~200ps time resolution and clear photo-electron separation up to 5) compared to PMT will be discussed, along with the readout system being developed for these new HAPD.
