Machine Shop Service:

We are a full service machine shop. Our office is located in building 025 Light Fabrication with additional facilities in building 026 Heavy Fabrication. We work directly with the customer from design to production. Our specialty is in research prototypes, short run production, modifications, repairs and machining radioactive materials. As a full service machine shop, we can furnish the raw material or machine your material, including steel, brass, stainless, plastics, or something exotic. We can also accommodate special jobs such as detector work, ceramic and surface grinding, large and small mill and lathe work, cutting and polishing.

Machine Shop Capabilities include:

Our shop is equipped with CNC and manual lathes, EDM machines (including wire and sinker) as well as 3 and 4 axis CNC mills. Our milling, turning and grinding capacity ranges from small precision tool room machines to very large capacity manual and CNC machines. Our EDM capabilities include small-hole EDM, curved hole machining with a multitude of complex shapes on both our Wire and Sinker EDM Machines.

Our Bridgeport mills equipped with Proto TRAK CNC controllers can machine approximately 26" travel in the X axis and 11" in the Y axis, and 6" in the z (depth). Our largest CNC milling machine has a travel of 100" in X axis, 60" in the Y axis and 25" in the Z axis.  In addition to the machines at Building 025 Light Fabrication location, we also have very large capacity milling and turning machines in Building 026 Heavy Fabrication. The Gidding -Lewis 570 FAUL Boring, Drilling, and Milling Machine has a 168" in X axis, 107" in the Y axis and can be fitted with a rotary table. The Monarch model 80 lathe is a 30" x 20' 20 HP lathe.

CAD - CAM in MFD

MFD uses Mastercam for machine programming to bring in Solid Edge or other CAD files into our system. We have the capability to convert your Solid Edge file into tool path. We also use the Greco DNC system to send it to any CNC machine in the shop form any workstation.
