From: Spencer, Cherrill M. Sent: Friday, August 13, 2010 12:01 AM To: Anderson, Scott D. Subject: Instructions for some extra measurements on WIG2E, with different account number- for Friday 13th Dear Scott I have asked you for a thermal test on the trim coils on the FACET WIG2E but I would rather you do the tests described below first and leave the thermal test til later in the day (while you go to the ice-cream social maybe?). Charge number: 1111219 (for CLIC and the ILC Beam Delivery System): (1) Standardize WIG2E as usual, except go down to "zero" amps on last cycle, then run its main coil up to 5 amps ( I realise this is below the minimum current of the standardization process but I'll take that risk because of the short time available). Trim coils off. Measure integral B.dl across the same x values we've been using for FACET with the main current at 5 amps: -2.0,-1.75, -1.5, -1.0, -0.5, -0.25, 0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 1.75, 2.0 cm. Pay attention to the stability of the PS at 5 amps, if it seems to falter, increase it to 10 amps and try again. Put the data in a sub-directory of the WIG2E directory, call it http://www- group.slac.stanford.edu/met/MagMeas/MAGDATA/FACET_Sector_20/Dipole/WIG2E/CLIC (2) Turn off the main PS and without standardizing, turn on the trim coil at 0.5 amps (half an amp) and measure integral B.dl across the same x values we used in step (1): -2.0,-1.75, -1.5, -1.0, -0.5, -0.25, 0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 1.75, 2.0 cm I'm assuming the trim's PS will be stable at 0.5 amps. Let me know when each data set is available on the web and I'll be looking at them right away and will let you know if there's another run I'll want. Thanks very much. Cherrill Ext 3474
