Safety Officers

Safety Officers

Safety Officers (SO) are individuals at SLAC who are subject matter experts in hazards of special concern, appointed by the laboratory director or the Chief Safety Officer (CSO). Safety Officers report to the Chief Safety Officer.

Safety Officers must be qualified professionals in their respective fields and have demonstrated experience in building partnerships and influencing directions across various levels of the organization in a facilitative manner. At the same time, they must have the ability to recognize and control hazards and prevent or stop unsafe or unauthorized work in their areas of responsibility.

Authority Having Jurisdiction  

Under delegated authority of DOE SLAC Site Office manager, the following perform routine duties of authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) at SLAC, including coordinating with DOE SLAC Site Office to obtain DOE approval of code and standard alternatives, for their respective areas:
