The (National Security Entry-Exit Registration System--NSEERS) is now both
active and being enforced. NSEERS requires that males over age 16 from
certain countries are required to report in person to a "local" INS Service
Center to be fingerprinted and photographed and interviewed with proof that
they are complying with the terms of whatever visa they hold. There are tight
deadlines for compliance and heavy penalties for violations.
Please see the website for the actual specifics and the latest updates.
Additional countries are being added on a weekly basis.
www.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/lawenfor/specialreg/index.htm.

As of today, citizens or nationals (males over 16) from the following countries
should immediately check to make sure they are in compliance:
- Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Syria
-Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Eritrea, Lebanon, Morocco, North Korea, Oman,
Qatar, Somalia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen
- Saudi Arabia, Pakistan,
- others likely to be added soon, keep checking.

Specific questions need to be addressed to the INS or Department of Justice.
The Federal Register notices were issued 11/22/02, 11/06/02, 9/30/02, 8/12/02
and 6/13/02. The text of the USA Patriot Act (Public Law 107-56) was published
10/26/01
