Concept 'Roaring Ring'  Project Plan

:
:DIALOGUE
Meeting #1
Today is the first day working on the Super Computing Conference exhibit space.

This conference showcases powerhouses in computing from all tiers of international organizations.

We are looking to express that "High Energy Physics (HEP) drives computing innovation."

RAW NOTES:
+ 50% Cost Reduction from last year
+ 90% Impact from last year
+ Same floor space (30'x40')
+ Re-Usable
+ 1-month for design exhibit
+ New structure, shape
+ 2-week brainstorm
+ Getting people interested and holding attention
+ Work done at SLAC and FERMI
+ What Computing is going to be?
+ HEP drives it.
+ Most fascinating aspects of HEP in SC
+ Plasma monitors free up structures (opposed to heavy CRT)
+ Modularity
+ Sections can travel to different locales after the conference (i.e. exhibits, sci museums, schools, etc.)
+ Each section should be semi-independent
+ What about staff explanation intensity nature of exhibit?
+ "Easier to brainstorm w/o tech in the way" mount
+ Fascinating Physics drive computing
+ Compare History
+ Future
+ Funding instability
+ Conversation with DOE
+ Paper submission / exhibit would provide follow up
+ 2 ideas at CHEOP conference
+ + 'Access Grid': Village within exhibit all doing different activities. Projection showing all the computing windows in matrix above exhibit.
+++'GRID' is losing favor in the DOE circle
++ 'Old Junk' Tom Humphries, Exploratorium, "people can smell 'real' science stuff as opposed to 'pretty-ified' stuff"
+ People like to see other people crouching in and looking at something
+ 20 ft' dome planetarium
+ Powers of 10, immersive
+ Future Astronomy / particle astro
+ Information technology
+ High speed network
+ Big Iron Computing (instead of GRID) from DOE
+ Leaders of Science of Information
+ Data intensive science and computing
+ Control Room of Future
+ Set up a storage ring
+ Project into a balloon
+ next meeting Thurs. 3:30
