Steve Porter is Senior University Counsel, and is the on-site counsel at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, a research laboratory owned by the United States Department of Energy and managed and operated by Stanford University. Before joining the University's Office of General Counsel, Steve served as General Counsel at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Prior to his stint at LANL, he worked for Battelle Memorial Institute, serving as General Counsel at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and managing the Legal Department at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He also was in private practice for 10 years, and worked as an attorney for the Department of Energy Exxon.
His practice areas have included government contracts, employment, risk management, technology transfer, and real estate.
Steve is a graduate of Louisiana State University Law School, and holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University.
