Workers' Compensation

Purpose

To identify and accurately report employees' work-related injuries/illnesses so that they receive the medical attention and assistance to which they are entitled.

Program Description

The Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) is operated by Stanford University (SU) under a contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). SU is both the contractor and the "employer." SLAC does not exist as an entity independent of SU; rather, SLAC is a department of SU and all SLAC employees are employees of the University. The University provides Workers' Compensation coverage for all employees as required by law. However, SLAC’s contractual obligations to the DOE require Workers’ Compensation (injury/illness/exposure) reporting procedures to be different than SU.

Any SLAC employee experiencing a work-related injury or illness may be entitled to Workers’ Compensation benefits. If an employee cannot work because of a work-related injury or illness, that employee may be eligible to receive temporary disability benefits. An authorized physician or other health care provider must substantiate the disability and verify all lost workdays.
