Educated Choices

Stanford’s health and welfare benefits are administered through a flexible benefits program called Educated Choices. Through Educated Choices you pay your share of health premium costs with before-free dollars.

Eligibility

You are eligible to participate if you are a faculty or regular staff employee, in a position scheduled to last at least 6 months (4 if covered by the SEIU Local 715 collective bargaining agreement), and work at least 50% FTE. In addition to yourself, you can enroll your spouse, same sex domestic partner, and eligible dependent children. Children can be covered to age 19, 23 if they are a full-time student.

Participation

You must enroll yourself and eligible dependents within 31 days of your hire date. If you miss the 31 day window, you will receive default coverage for yourself only. This coverage includes medical coverage for employee only through PacifiCare HMO, Delta Dental Preferred Option Plan, 66 2/3% Long-Term Disability insurance, and one times salary basic life insurance (up to $50,000). Each new, benefits eligible, employee will receive a packet of benefits information along with enrollment instructions. There are no forms to complete, everything's online!
