When your life changes, your benefits can changeCertain events in your life and your job qualify as official Family Status Changes. When they occur, tax laws permit benefit changes outside of the Open Enrollment period. However, the benefit change must be made consistent with the Family Status Change and the change must be made within thirty one (31) days of the qualifying event. You must make your changes within thirty one (31) days and coverage will begin on the date of the qualifying event. New coverage can be retroactive to your wedding date, child’s birth date, your first day of full-time work, etc. Miss your thirty one (31) day deadline and you could miss out on medical, dental, life, spending accounts, and AD&D coverage for yourself, spouse, and/or children.
