The Department of Energy's Office of Inspector General
The Inspector General for the Department of Energy is
responsible for detecting and preventing
fraud, waste and abuse of DOE programs. The OIG
accomplishes this by conducing audits, inspections,
and criminal investigations of DOE and its contractors.

Possible actions by the Office of Inspector General:
- Criminal violations of the law are prosecuted
through the U.S. Department of Justice or a local
District Attorney's Office.
- Instances of mismanagement will be reported to DOE
management.
- Criminal convictions and significant managerial
deficiencies are reports to the U.S. Congress
semiannually.
