The process for developing a new ESH course is as follows:
Requestor completes the
Course Needs Analysis Form and
sends it to ES&H
ES&H Training will send set up a meeting to review the form and
establish a course development plan.
Once the course and plan are approved, ES&H Training will generate a
course number and a new folder for the course materials will be
created on the V drive here V:\ESH\ESH_Training\ESH course
materials\course XXX. The XXX is your course number.
ES&H Training will place a course catalog page template in that
folder and complete relevant information supplied in the Course
Needs Analysis Form.
Requestor completes the course materials (lesson
plan, slide set, test, handouts, course catalog
template, etc.) per the course development plan
then notifies ES&H Training. Note: ES&H
Training will collaborate with the requestor on
these per the course development plan.
ES&H Training will review and let the requestor know if
additional information or clarification of existing information
is needed before the catalog page and other materials are
Requestor coordinates with ES&H Training to provide a pilot of
the course if the course is a classroom based training.
- If the training is web based, the requestor will work with
ESH Training to identify appropriate beta testers of the course.
Requestor incorporates feedback received from the pilot
Requestor prepares a communication announcing the new
or modified course.
(Note: Ensure the ES&H manual chapter(s) where this training is
mentioned is updated as necessary.)
The requestor works with ESH Training to disseminate
an appropriate communication about the new
training to their core
ES&H Training activates the course in the database and the ESH course
If it is a classroom course, sessions are scheduled and
registration for classes will be initiated.
Preparing your PowerPoint presentation and class materials:
An electronic copy of the latest version of your class materials should be
stored in the ESH Training folder on the V drive here - V:\ESH\ESH_Training\ESH
course materials\course XXX. The XXX is your course number. Every active ESH
Training course has its own folder.
Course materials that should be stored in this folder are:
- PowerPoint presentations
- Exam and handouts
- Lesson plans
- Other graphics and visual aids associated with the lesson
PowerPoint presentation Template - You should use the ESH
Training PowerPoint template for all your training presentations.
There are two versions of this template.
- If you are building your presentation from scratch, you may
use the PowerPoint starter presentation
PowerPoint presentation is pre populated with the Emergency
Information and Final slides which should be shown at all ESH
classroom trainings. Simply add your slides in between the
pre-existing first and last slides.
- If you are converting an existing PowerPoint to the ESH
template you can download a copy of the template
here (chose save
when the dialogue box opens and save it to your desktop) or you
can find it on the V drive at V:\ESH\ESH_Training\ES&H PowerPoint
Template. You will then need to apply this template as a style in
your PowerPoint presentation.
- Once you have applied the ESH template you will need to
add the following slides to your presentation.
- Emergency Information slide - In addition to the
PowerPoint template, we are providing a slide on Emergency
information that should be presented at the beginning of your class.
This slide goes in the beginning of your presentation.
- Final Slide - We also have a slide which goes at
the end of your presentation which addresses completing the
- The above slides can be downloaded
here (chose save
when the dialogue box opens and save it to your desktop) or they
can also be accessed on the V drive at V:\ESH\ESH_Training\ES&H
If you have any questions about how to incorporate the ESH
Training PowerPoint templates in your presentation or how to convert
your current presentation to this template, please contact ESH
Modifying an existing course:
If the revision is minor:
- For classroom based training - If the revision
involves some content changes only and does not involve major
changes to who must attend or the length of time of the
training, the instructor may make the changes to
the affected course materials without formally engaging the ESH
Training team. Please simply notify ESH Training that changes
were made. Determine if a communication
on the changes and update of the course catalog page are
warranted. The revised course materials should be placed in the
“Current Course Materials” folder within the course folder on
the V drive. The original materials should be placed in the
“Archive” folder within the course folder on the V drive.
- For web based training - If small content
changes to a web based training are required, please provide a
mark up to ESH Training of the slide/s to be changed. ESH
Training will contact you with any questions and notify you when
the changes have been made so you may review them.
If the revision is major:
If the revision is more involved, includes major
program changes or if a greater level of assistance is needed from
ES&H Training, the requestor sets up a meeting with ES&H
Training to discuss the modification and ES&H Training works
with the requestor to develop a training modification plan.
The requestor will be emailed the plan once it
is entered into the
ESH Training Queue tool.
Once the plan is approved, the requestor and ES&H Training make the modifications as
planned and agree the necessary materials set are complete.
If deemed appropriate, the requestor coordinates
with ES&H Training to provide a pilot (or set up
a beta test if the course is web based) of the
course and the requestor
works with ES&H Training to incorporate received feedback.
- The requestor marks up any changes to the training on the course
catalog template provided by ES&H Training. Leave “Track
Changes” on so we can see what has been modified and notify ES&H
Training when done.
- ES&H Training will publish the revised course catalog page.
- If deemed appropriate, the requestor prepares a communication
announcing the modifications to the course. (Note: Ensure the
ES&H manual chapter(s) where this training is mentioned is
updated as necessary.)
- The requestor works with ESH Training to disseminate
an appropriate communication about the training changes to their core
