GERT/EOESH
Can I take EOESH or GERT
in an instructor lead class as opposed to computer training (CBT)?
We do not generally offer EOESH or GERT as an instructor led
class. Exceptions are made for organized student groups or groups of
employees with special language needs. If you have such a group,
please contact ES&H
Training.
Are the CBT EOESH and GERT good for retraining as well as initial
training?
Yes, it is good for both.
How do I challenge
a course
where I already understand the core materials?
If you are retraining, you can challenge the
course by opting to go straight to the test sections of the CBT
instead of watching the entire program. Paper challenges are
also available. Please see our
web page for more
information. Challenges are not available for those taking the
course for the first time.
I need to renew my EOESH/GERT training; what do I do?
EOESH and GERT are currently available on
computers at several satellite locations around SLAC. Please see our
website for locations and information
on how to make an appointment.
Study guides are available for both EOESH and GERT on the ES&H
Training website.
I'm a radiation worker
level RWT l or RWT ll; do I have to take GERT?
Yes. GERT is a prerequisite to all RWT .
I've taken radiological training at
another lab. Do I still have to
take EOESH and GERT here at SLAC?
If you've taken radiological training at another lab, please
contact the
Field Operations Group Leader to see if it is transferable to
SLAC. Before contacting the Group Leader, please have a copy of your
training history available to help determine if your training is
transferable.
If your training is transferable, you will be able
to waive the GERT course. Your training will be valid for two years
from the date you took your initially took your radiation training.
You will be required to take a SLAC specific
safety orientation training such as
course 396 - SON (if you will be at SLAC for less then 60 days
in a year) or
course 219 - EOESH (if you will be at SLAC 60 days or longer in
a year).
I have a returning student who took EOESH and GERT last summer. Do
they need to take these courses again this summer?
No. EOESH and GERT training is valid for two years (even if
a person isn't at SLAC for the full two years). To show proof of
training, the returning student's status in the SLAC Institutional
Database must be changed from Inactive to Active. The
Badging Office will need to verify training by viewing the student's
training history. If you need assistance with this, please see
your department's ATOM. If you don't know who your atom is, please
check the
SLAC ATOM list
