Roles and Responsibilities
The PCBs program manager will
- Compile and maintain the PCB annual document log
- Provide guidance on PCB-related issues
The Waste Management (WM) Group will
- Coordinate the disposal of non-radiological hazardous waste, including oil contaminated with PCBs
- Maintain the waste disposal records for all PCB-related items
- Respond to PCB-related spills during business hours
The Conventional and Experimental Facilities (CEF) Department will
- Maintain a preventive maintenance (PM) program for all on-site equipment
- Inspect transformers and keep records of inspection
Managers and supervisors will
- Determine appropriate PCB training requirements and qualifications for persons working with PCB equipment.
- Ensure that equipment containing oil or PCBs is correctly labeled
- Ensure all equipment inspections are performed and documented
- Ensure proper secondary containment of PCB-containing equipment
- Ensure proper spill-control measures are available/ready
All SLAC personnel, subcontractors, users, and visitors who perform work on PCB-containing equipment will
- Review projects with their supervisor to determine any PCB-related hazards and the appropriate applicable training
- Wear applicable PPE
- Use safe and environmentally sound work practices
- Immediately report incidents of leaks or spills to their supervisor or SLAC Safeguards and Security
