There are no formal training requirements for Cryogenic and Oxygen Deficiency Hazard Safety.
On-the-job training (OJT), however, is currently given by the Conventional and Experimental Facilities Department (CEF) to each of its employees who routinely enter ODH areas.
The training objectives include the following topics:
- Normal atmospheric constituents
- Effects of exposure to oxygen deficient atmospheres
- Reduced physical and mental abilities
- Loss of consciousness
- Death
- Sources and mechanisms of oxygen deficiency
- ODH safety procedures
- Exposure limit
- ODH classification scheme
- Required controls: oxygen monitors and evacuation/rescue
- PPE Requirements for transferring cryogens from fill stations to portable dewars
- Primary ODH locations
