Chapter 53: Chemical Safety

The purpose of this program is to protect workers in non-laboratory work areas from the hazards associated with handling and using hazardous chemicals. (Specific requirements for chemical safety in research laboratories are covered separately in Chapter 58, "Laboratory Safety".)

This program covers hazard communication requirements in manufacturing and other non-research areas, as well as hazardous materials use for non-research purposes within SLAC.

It applies to workers (as chemical workers), supervisors, area and building managers, ESH coordinators, the chemical safety program manager, and Occupational Health, ESH, and Facilities and Operations.

This chapter satisfies Cal/OSHA requirements for a written hazard communication program (8 CCR 5194).
