Office Machine Wastes

Office machines such as photocopiers, printers, and facsimile machines may generate empty toner cartridges and toner collectors. Many of these items can be recycled as follows:

Recycling

  1. Check to see if it is an item that can be taken back by the vendor for re-manufacturing.
  2. If the vendor does take the item back, place it in its original package and mark it "for recycle." Make arrangements for the vendor to pick it up.

Disposing of an Item as Hazardous Waste

If a vendor does not take an item back for recycling, the cartridge must be properly disposed of as hazardous waste.

Purchasing New Cartridges

When purchasing new toner cartridges, check for re-manufactured equivalents. They can cost 50% less while providing comparable performance to the OEM product.
