The SLAC fire and life safety program is based on compliance with the following standards:
- Title 29, Code of Federal Regulations, "Labor"
- Part 1910, "Occupational Safety and Health Standards", Subpart L, "Fire Protection" (29 CFR 1910 Subpart L)
- Part 1926, "Safety and Health Regulations for Construction", Subpart C, "General Safety and Health Provisions", Section 24, "Fire Protection and Prevention" (29 CFR 1926.24)
- Department of Energy Order 414.1C, "Quality Assurance", Attachment 2, "Contractor Requirements Document" (DOE O 414.1C)
- Department of Energy Order 420.1B, "Facility Safety", Attachment 2, "Contractor Requirements Document", Chapter 2, "Fire Protection" (DOE O 420.1B)

[pdf] (DOE-STD-1088-95)
Note: Many aspects of the fire and life safety program constitute elements of a quality assurance plan and are required to comply with DOE Order 414.1C. DOE Standard 1066-99 constitutes a "safe harbor" compilation of DOE guidance that complies with DOE Order 420.1B. This DOE standard is adopted as guidance by SLAC.
- Title 19, California Code of Regulations, "Public Safety", Division 1, "State Fire Marshal", Chapter 5, "Automatic Fire Extinguishing Systems"
- Article 4, "Inspection, Testing and Maintenance Frequencies", sections 904.5-904.7 (maintenance requirements for five-year testing of fire sprinkler systems and testing of dry chemical and wet chemical fire extinguishing systems) (19 CCR 904.5-904.7)
- Title 24, California Code of Regulations
- The following industry-accepted consensus standards:
- SLAC is located in an unincorporated area of San Mateo County. There are no applicable local fire protection requirements that apply directly to the fire protection program at SLAC. See Chapter 40, "Hazardous Materials", for process safety management requirements administered by the County of San Mateo.
