Tunnel Rescue and Triage Response Drill
April 2007
The Tunnel Rescue Drill was an exercise designed to bring together and
coordinate rescue efforts between local fire departments, with
the on-site SERT team doing triage on the side. After an "earthquake," a tunnel
"collapsed," trapping people inside (simulated). The fire
departments performed rescue operations to bring out the victims.
The SERT team brought the victims over to our staging area and perform
triage and treatment, noting which victims needed further medical
assistance from hospitals. Evaluators were present to monitor the
situation and provide feedback for the teams after the drill was over.
Details can be found in the
draft drill exercise document [pdf].
