Developing
a new
course:
All new
training programs need to be submitted for
evaluation to the ES&H training sub
committee. This is to insure that the
training fits the needs of the lab and will
conform to our administrative requirements.
To submit a
course for review, please do the following:
- Fill out
the new
ES&H Course Proposal Form
- The
form captures essential information
such as
- Course title
- Course description
- Prerequisites
- Who should attend
- Regulatory drivers
- How the course will be
presented:
- Computer or web based
- Instructor led – who is the
instructor? Outside vendor?
- The form
once completed should be submitted to
Terry McMahon who will schedule a
review with the ES&H training sub
committee.
- If
you need help filling out the form,
Terry or
Paul Bloom are available to assist you.
- Once the
form is submitted, the course will be
evaluated by the ES&H Training sub
committee. A review will be scheduled at
the earliest possible date. The sub
committee may request further
clarification about specifics of the
course.
- Once the
course is reviewed by committee, a
recommendation is submitted to the ES&H division head for
approval.
- Once the course is approved by the ES&H Division
Head, it is entered into the course catalog
- If the
course is developed by an internal (SLAC)
instructor, ES&H training should receive
a lesson plan of the course and a copy of any
PowerPoint or other electronic media used
for the presentation.
- If you would
like help in preparation of your course or
developing your lesson plan,
Terry McMahon is available to work with
instructors to improve their presentations
or simply provide constructive feedback.
Please contact Terry to set up an appointment
to do so.
Preparing a course lesson plan:
- Every training course should have a lesson plan on file with
ESH Training.
Terry McMahon is available to help you prepare your lesson
plan. Please contact Terry if you wish to schedule an appointment
at ext. 3465.
- Below is a template that you can use plus samples of
existing lesson plans:
Modifying an existing course:
The process for modifying an existing course is similar to
proposing a new course but may or may not require review of the ES&H
Training sub committee. The need for committee review is determined
by the extent of the modification. This will be determined on a case
by case basis.
- Fill out the ES&H
Course Modification form
- This form is used to capture the changes that you are
proposing to an existing course.
- Submit the form to
Terry McMahon who will discuss the
modifications with you to determine if a committee review is
necessary.
- If no review is necessary, the modifications will be
implemented.
- If it is determined that a review is necessary, a
presentation to the Training Sub committee will be
scheduled.
- Approval from the ES&H Division head will be
required for major course modifications.
