Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI)
Program Description
The SULI Program is designed to:
- Provide a diverse group of highly motivated undergraduate students with direct access to laboratory equipment, facilities and staff expertise through research experiences;

- Provide a diverse group of highly motivated undergraduate students with direct access to laboratory equipment, facilities and staff expertise through research experiences;
- Enable undergraduate students to collaborate with laboratory staff in ways that contribute to laboratory research programs and at the same time provide the students with educational experiences that encourage them to study and pursue careers in science and engineering;
- Attract a large number of eligible applicants that are varied in gender, ethnicity, and economic background.
- Mentors work with undergraduate students during an eight week summer internship, typically the last week of June through the second week of August.
Mentor Roles and Responsibilities
- Define a project suitable for the student.
- Guide undergraduate student to its completion.
- Help the student relate her/his project to the bigger picture of the group’s activities and the lab as a whole.

- Provide office/desk space for the student. Farah Rabar will set up System ID numbers for all the students, and will be arranging for Windows and Unix accounts for the students.
- Contact students by email prior to their arrival to introduce yourself and describe the student’s project.
- Review safety training requirements for students and communicate any additional needs to us (beyond standard ES&H, GERT and general Electrical which is already being arranged for.)
- Provide guidance/supervision to undergraduate students during the entire eight week summer internship, typically the last week of June through the second week of August.
- Review students research paper and oral presentation.
