Plan for Implementation

SLAC's annual Diversity Plan involves leadership and commitment from across the laboratory.  The Director of the Laboratory, Dr. Persis S. Drell, holds the broader vision of diversity here at SLAC. The participation of supervisors and managers, however, are central to the creation and achievement of our annual goals and diversity activities.

Diversity goals are set for the total Laboratory annually and our entire managerial staff are asked to identify diversity activities which would achieve our Laboratory-wide goals as well as create an inclusive environment promoting diversity. These activities range from providing mentoring to employees or next generation of scientists to active recruitment to enhance diversity within their respective departments. 

Goals are created based on the expected number of opportunities for hire and promotion and the existing demographics of the skilled labor force within the respective recruitment areas by occupations.

The Diversity Office works with supervisors and managers to facilitate this process, to identify opportunities, and to provide resourcing support; keeping in mind the broader diversity goals across the laboratory. Every year, this office evaluates and provides feedback to the managerial staff on the progress of the laboratory in meeting its diversity goals and to highlight best practices and achievements.
